Holding Space: Studio Support Opportunity at Juice Studios

02/02/2026

Written by Matt Walton

We are delighted to open applications for our new Holding Space: Studio Support opportunity, offering one artist seven months of fully cost-covered studio space at Juice Studios in Hull, alongside time, support and space to develop new work.

This opportunity is designed to give an artist the freedom to focus on their practice without the pressure of studio costs, while staying connected to a wider creative community. From March to September 2026, the selected artist will work from Juice Studios, with regular visits from Humber Street Gallery staff to support conversation, reflection and development as the work takes shape.

Applications open today and close on Sunday 22 February. Shortlisted artists will be invited to interview on Monday 2 March, with the successful applicant beginning work in the studio from Monday 9 March. As part of the residency, the artist will receive a £500 studio production fee and a further £500 exhibition production fee.

Public engagement is an important part of this opportunity. The artist will open their studio to visitors on Saturday 2 May as part of Hull Open Studios 2026, offering insight into their practice and work in progress. Later in the year, in September, the artist will take part in a public roundtable led in conversation with Humber Street Gallery staff, reflecting on the Supported Studio experience and the work being developed.

The residency culminates in an exhibition at Humber Street Gallery running from 15 October 2026 to 1 January 2027. The exhibition offers a moment to share the work publicly and to explore the ideas that have grown during the residency period.

Alongside this opportunity, we are also inviting submissions for the Fruit Factory Guild Members Show, an annual exhibition open exclusively to members of our artist network. Together, these two opportunities reflect different ways we aim to support artists, through time, space, visibility and connection.

Full application details for the Holding Space: Studio Support opportunity can be found here.

Please email submissions to alex.stubbs@absolutelycultured.co.uk by Sunday 22 February, 5pm.
